The Birth of Paulay Winery

Paulay WineryThere are such buildings which at a glance deserves more than their counterparts.

The house that I am referring to is the birthplace of Ede Paulay (1836-1894) the playwright, literary translator and drama pedagogist- the famous National Theater director between 1878 to 1894.

The house was built in the 1700s and is situated within the historical core of Tokaj (Hajdú köz 11.) which is a notable attraction in the alley. During the last centuries the house was extended or rebuilt several times, later on, in the 1950s, it became the property of the Csíki family. In 2010, after two generations my husband and I decided to restore the whole building with the aim to set up a wine cellar and a pension in it. The overall reconstruction started in May 2011. Our aim was to preserve the original features of the building while modernizing it.
In the attic we provide fully equipped rooms for those who wish to relax after travelling.

CellarOur guests may taste our wines in the spacious wine cellar which is a proper shelter against summer heat or winter cold.

Beside the excellent wines our guests may taste our honey, home-made jams, home-grown fruits and vegetables in an atmosphere of intimacy.

We are looking forward to meeting our guests.
